The Ashgabat Theme Park (Ertekiler Dünýäsi) is a theme park designed by Turkmen architects as a local interpretation of Disneyland, opening in 2006. It has become a popular site for concerts and is a $50 million recreational complex based on Turkmen folklore and fairy tales, covering 100 acres (0.40 km²) and featuring 80 attractions. The park starts with a map of Turkmenistan showcasing miniature replicas of significant architectural sites. The Ferris Wheel is inspired by Turkmen jewelry, the Magic Carpet mimics traditional Turkmen rugs, and a roller coaster winds over a mini-replica of the Caspian Sea. Visitors encounter characters from Turkmen folklore, including Khudoiberdy, who battles evil spirits, and Bovendjik, known for his voracious appetite. In May 2024, the renovated amusement park reopened after two years of reconstruction, featuring updated carousels, modern catamarans, and a new 20-meter dancing fountain.
