About

Construction of the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex began in September 2012 by the Turkish company Polimeks. Officially named on October 5, 2014, it opened on Memorial Day, attended by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. In 2020, the 75th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War was commemorated with a military parade, marking the first Victory Parade since Turkmenistan's independence, attended by President Berdimuhamedow and Russian officials. The complex spans 650,000 square meters, measuring 916 meters long and 626 meters wide, and includes a monument dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War and memorials for those who died in the battle near Geok Depe and during the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake. It features a museum, areas for the Muslim rite of sadaqah, fountains, lawns, flower beds, paved paths, decorative lamps, and benches, all illuminated by searchlights at night.
