The Lenin monument in Ashgabat was unveiled on November 7, 1927, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution. The decision to erect it was made in 1924 by Nedirbay Aytakov, the first chairman of the TSSR's CEC, shortly after Lenin's passing. Notably, the pedestal, designed as a cube, is adorned with majolica tiles patterned after the gels of Turkmen carpets from the five main tribes. Locals referred to it as a "mausoleum," and during the Soviet era, a museum dedicated to Lenin and the establishment of Soviet power in Turkmenistan was housed beneath it.Â
